Vapor or Superpump or Purple Wrath... Decisions, decisions... anyone have any input on which I should start back to gain muscle now that the season is over
  • mungomungo November 2009
Purple Wrath gets the best reviews but tastes awful. Superpump isn't good. Never tried vapor. What are you looking for?
  • ErlingErling November 2009
I work out at my house, simple things - lifting, pushups, pullups etc. Just general stuff to stay in shape not really bodybuild or anything like that. I do it whenever I have time, once a day most days but random times of the day. Just wondering about general dietary things I should be looking for without all the extra things, supplements, energy things etc. Just looking for things to eat more of the help in whatever little way. Keep in mind I eat plenty of junky shit and have no body fat so I'm not worried about what not to eat per say just things to take note of when I am eating.

If that makes any sense lol

Stick to whole grains, lean meats, and watch your sugar intake. Just because you're not gaining weight that doesn't mean you're immune to a disease called Diabetes. Most people's metabolism starts deteriorating in their upper 20's, so that's something to be mindful of as well. Make sure to eat fruit/vegetables, as cliche as it sounds they're extraordinarily important for your natural functions.

Well I've had: vapor, black powder, scivation's Xtend and superpump250.

Vapor was more of a mass builder more then anything else and that was terrible tasting, which was not really what I wanted plus I'd crash horribly afterward.

Black powder is terrible for your body I wouldn't recommend that to anyone, granted they're all not good for you but black powder not only did it give me okay results it gave me headaches made me irratable and just as bad of a crash as vapor.

Xtend was the first thing I took before lacrosse practice or any cardio and it didn't do anything

Superpump gives me RIDICULOUS results and aside from sometimes an upset stomach the only bad thing is the BM's afterwards sitting on the toilet sucks, it runs right through you.

I've heard nothing but good things (accept for the tast) about purple wrath and I would have purchased it but I got antsy last night because I wanna start ASAP well I got a 10$ discount on my superpump because It's my 3rd consecutive purchase of it so I figured why not.. after this is done i'll wait 3-4 weeks and pick up wrath so i'm clear for a new supplement

Since you called me...I second what Mungo said. Eat real whole foods. Stuff your viking grandfather would have recognized and enjoyed. Meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, some starch from whole grains, little sugar. Maybe take some fish oil caplets. That food, along with some decent movement, which you described erling, will keep you in perfectly fine shape.

    Don't eat chemicals.

Kiwi, eat some more real food.

Topic change - got a blog going along with a few friends about our latest lifting experiment. http://baltimoregetsbig.wordpress.com/

Mungo...what are you totaling these days?

When I get out of college and am no longer a collegiate athlete , I'll eat wholesome, my gym habits will change and i'll run more.. But I don't have the money it cost to buy good meals and get a wide variety. It's garbage andrew you're absolutely right. However, garbage is what keeps me 4 steps faster then the guy trying to catch me and gives me the ability to run over a 6 ft 220lb man. Hardwork and garbage keeping athletes like me alive in rugby since fall 2008.

The only portion that is good for me is the results, It's gotta be hard to understand.. When i put myself in your shoes and try and look at from a different perspective I see something stupid, something I could regret in a few years. When I'm breaking a tackle(s) on the field because of the preseason-postseason workout(s). Or catching the kid 10 steps ahead of me, laying my shoulder into a guy twice my size etc. I can't not take something to get me ready in-time for the next season. Bigger Faster Stronger. It can all be done naturally.. but not fast enough unfortunatly.

dude, truthfully all the supplements are more expensive than real food. You can find healthy real food really cheap. Lets look at eggs, eggs were always known as great protein, I bought 3 dozen for 3 bucks today. You just got to find the right stuff with the right price.

haha It's funny I picked up the same thing in like a cardboard box for the same price at walmart yesterday, and I'm not saying I don't eat health but vegetables fruits grains all of that will add up, and you know just as much as I do. Building muscle naturally takes alot more time then taking supplements and anyone that says otherwise is out of their mind (I have tried it before).

Checked out the blog, seems like you got a decent group of weight-lifting buddies...always a good thing.

I've been lifting in the mornings because of work, waking up nice and early. The only problem with this is lack of a trustworthy spotter, so I've been trying to extend to 12-15 reps per set, slowly getting there.

    Deadlifts - 435x8
    Bench - 225x11 or 315x5
    DB Military - 95x10
Squats - 315x20 (hurt my leg a little while back so been keeping it light)
    Barbell Shrugs - 315x25
    Pullups - 30
    Pushups - 120
    Running - mile in 6:40, 2 in 14:05

What about you bud? I know we have ridiculously different styles of lifting, but how have you been feeling recently? Married life getting in the way?
  • PhilPhil November 2009
Hanging in there. I dislocated my right ankle in March, sprained my left knee in August and separated my right shoulder in October...not my best year physically, but thats the price for playing Aussie Rules I guess...

I am just doing some linear strength stuff now (Rippetoe's SS) to get back to previous levels, and then I am going to spend the winter Olympic lifting in some competitions. Trying to eat enough now to compete in the 105kg (231lbs) class. I'd like to total 216kg in the Olympic events and qualify for collegiate nationals. So just working on that.

Married life is quite conducive to working out, she is a fitness fan too :-D Who doesn't love a woman that bakes cookies and dead lifts 1.5x bodyweight?
