So I need a new phone...
  • vegitotgkvegitotgk July 2008
Hey guys so recently my phone decided to crap out on me and it no longer works. I am looking into getting a new phone and I am having a hard time deciding on what to get. Sadly, I am on the AT&T and cannot have the EnV2 or Voyager :/

Anyways, I'm looking for a nice phone under $200. The two best phones I've found so far are the LG VU and the AT&T Tilt. I've read reviews on CNet but I just want you guys' opinion. Which do you think is better and are there other good options?

    The iPhone is now 199$....

    I second the iphone recommendation.

The shine LOOKS pretty cool, but go for the iPhone.
  • vegitotgkvegitotgk July 2008
umm well I was looking into the iPhone at first but it costs $70.00 a month with the lowest minutes plan. I don't have that kind of money to spend every month...
  • Well isnt a new iPhone coming out soon? The old one is bond to drop when the new one comes out.
  • azn+mikeazn mike July 2008
yeah, but not the plan itself though. The plan itself will stay the same.

Then get the LG shine, I'm sure that uses the basic plans and such.
  • Ya my bad, anyway the new iPhone is the one coming out at $199 (iPhone 3G).
  • vegitotgkvegitotgk July 2008
yeah the new iPhone is the one I was looking at. Although it has a nice price tag, Apple basically is giving a portion of sales to AT&T because the monthly $$$ for a plan with the iPhone is so expensive. The $70 plan is the cheapest for the iPhone

newsflash: the iPhone is not a singular or unique piece of equipment now. I like the tilt. You could also look into some blackberrys. I think the pearl is under a hundred bucks now, but it isn't as robust as the VU or the Tilt, but maybe the Curve is more your speed. I've got no clue how much they cost now.

Sure the new iPhone is cheaper, but I believe the plan is getting hiked $10. Over 2 years $10 is $240... compared to the original $399 phone you are losing $41. But the new iPhone has better features.

fuck the iphone, you should get a blackberry

pearl 8100's are like 50 bucks with a plan, so are 8700's. and if you don't want to get a data plan just get a regular plan and buy an 8700 off ebay for 100 bucks, although you wont be able to use email and stuff, its still got enough features to make it worthwhile. curves are also 150 with a plan

plus blackberries are sexier than iphones. you'll get laid more if you have a blackberry

edit: ps don't get a razr or razr2 ever

The tilt is bulkier than the four year old phone I use now (which is quite bulky) and looks like ass. It is twice as large as large as the iphone all to support a physical keyboard (a technological achievement that is decades old).

The blackberry still clings to its decade-old design including, once again, a physical keyboard. The device is large enough, and smart-phone screens are small enough that there simply isn't room to waste on such an antiquated technology. It relies on its own browser which is an awful idea. The very nature of the internet requires browsers to remain on the bleeding edge of the technology curve. Safari is already there and will remain there for decades to come -- not because apple is "so great" or anything, but because Safari is used on millions of computers world wide as well as every single iphone and ipod touch in existence. It is designed to take on everything the internet has to offer, while the blackberry browser is designed to take on what it thinks its current phones can handle. It's mapping software is also entirely in-house and proprietary instead of offering you the incredible power of Google maps. It suffers from the exact same issues as the browser. The blackberry's music sync software is nice for being able to sync with apple's itunes, but it will always lag behind on huge itune upgrades that require updating any sync software on the device. Meanwhile, the iphone and ipod touch will get immediate updates directly from the source.

Just never...ever, even under penalty of death get a Nextel. NEVER! If my family's company didn't have to use their walkie-talkie bullshit I would have gotten an iPhone a lonnnnng time ago. My stupid phone can receive text messages, but it cuts out half of any text message I send to my friends. Garbage phone is garbage.
