All of this hype over one fucking dude who knew the risk of the job. I'm not saying piracy shouldn't be an international concern, but all this talk of military intervention is retarded.

Let people arm themselves, and then let them deal with their own problems, or continue to do nothing and let ship captains remain at risk. Either way, this is such a minuscule issue it hardly seems worthy of 3 fucking pages of stupid banter.

They left out the fact that the navy shot the ship's sails to shit so they couldn't direct the ship's movement.

    [citation needed]

A brief google search for that tidbit comes up empty. I hadn't read/heard this before.
/I also question the assertion that Somali pirates were in a sailboat and not a motorboat, as is their MO.

Nm, I mixed facts from the french rescue with this one.

    Lose.

Meanwhile the "pirates" (enquotified since they aren't a single organization) have said that they will be much more trigger happy in the future if demands aren't met immediately.

Which will in turn shorten the life span of the pirates. If the hostages will be under a more serious threat then I can assure you that instead of a lengthy negotiation a quick resolution will be in the offing. And the pirates will escalate again. Soon things will become unprofitable and ugly for all parties involved. Eventually the world powers will decide to take action. Hopefully with the permission of the Somali government.

    I concur with this prediction.

/wasn't this the first American vessel?
  • hexenwulfhexenwulf April 2009
Yes, I think it was the first American ship to be taken by pirates in some 200 years. Well I assume they mean commercial craft. I think there has been a problem with civilian craft in other parts of the world.
  • NunesNunes April 2009
Things typically go swimmingly for parties like these pirates until they fuck with America's interests. I'm not opinionated enough or well informed enough to care one way or the other, but unless something distracts us from this recent event we'll probably see some sort of response.
