    It's not really an issue with maintainability so much as an issue of usefulness. The gallery is almost entirely unused, so clearly it isn't a valuable asset to the site. Despite that, it takes up a pretty prominent link in the header. I don't know exactly what I'll link to now, but I'm sure I can find something that is more useful than the gallery.
