Donations for the Website
  • GovernorGovernor September 2008
I know the forums aren't as active as they once were, but I also know that there are still a few of you that check them regularly. Regardless of the activity, they still cost me the same amount to host them. I fronted the bill for the first year of hosting and would really appreciate it if anyone could donate to help sustain the site longer. The hosting is currently $10 a month, and I'd really like to get the money together for a year or more.

You can donate via paypal at [email protected]

    Thanks!

Oh, and I'll be listing here the names and donation amounts of anyone that donates. If you want to donate but do not want your name to show up here, just make a note of it with your donation.

Why did this clan break up again? Most of the regular people are still around and into playing a variety of games. Isn't that what FD was founded on? I only bring this up because with all the donations I don't see why we couldn't get some sort of organized gaming going again, i mean its obvious the monetary means are still there.

    Just a random thought.

Does Paypal charge a flat fee each time you receive money, or do they get a percentage of how much you receive?

Both. For small exchanges like this, they charge a transaction fee of 2.9% plus 30 cents. This charge is applied to the merchant and not the buyer.

I currently have $168.60. That's enough to pay for the next seventeen months of hosting, so we're in pretty good shape for awhile. Still, if you want to donate, by all means go ahead. Any money that is donated will go toward the web hosting.
  • PheylanPheylan September 2008
So if people started paypaling say...a penny to you you'd start to lose money? Not that anyone would be so mean.

They all moved out of the town house. That's pretty much it.
/also we're a bunch of destructive assholes, so they hate us, or something

....That is an odd reason to break up a whole clan. All because people moved out of a townhouse..

We actually disbanded because Xemplar was approaching the age to attend LanBQs, and we figured it would be easier to just disband the clan, rather than raise the entry age.

The way I understand it, the clan was founded for a number of reasons. It's hard to deny that the clan survived because of a very personal feel, partially fueled by the LANing that went on. The planning of all LAN's fell on a fairly small group of people, and ultimately resulted in those lans taking place at one central location. Now that location is unavailable. Before that happened however the decision was made to have that last lan be the last lan. The guys needed to get their shit in one sock as they approached graduation, and they needed to not have to worry about having another hole punched in their wall or ceiling or having beer poured all over their carpet.

All that aside. As you younger whipper snappers approach the age of enlightenment (18) you can feel free to try and organize some lans on your own. you might even meet support from some of the older crowd (I might be down for example). You'll probably see why Court et al. got sick of doing it. It's a great time but it's not easy to set up a meeting of 26 people from around the country, especially when 40+ people want to go.

I'd suggest starting with an actual LAN with a place to crash at night, and jump from there. The power's yours kids.
  • ebolaebola September 2008
my place is up for partying but there is no room for computers =/ we need to find a place central to all of us like virginia or ohio.
  • MeatonMeaton September 2008
Big lan at your local Jail ?

    J/k
  • PheylanPheylan September 2008
It may be easier to not plan a lan but to plan another beerbq, which is what the last one or two lans turned into.
  • MeatonMeaton September 2008
Phey did it also turn in to yur running around naked.. ?

  • PheylanPheylan September 2008
Not the most recent time, no. No telling what can happen at future events. All the more reason to plan them now!

I'd say the clan fell apart more because no one played on the server, not because of the lack of LANs. Not everyone lives in the Northeast, including a good number of regulars who used to play here.

Gov, how much does a good CS server run for a year or two? just wondering

on nuclear fallout if you choose all the best options and if you make a 1 year payment the price is : $968.69
    month to month : $94.97

    this include :
    server located at chicago
    High CPU priority
    Ultraaccelerator [1000 FPS] limited availability

if you choose 500 fps instead of 1000 fps the price are

    1 year : $764.69
    month to month : $74.97
  • ScabdatesScabdates September 2008
NuclearFallout is by far the worst server host I know of. If you use them, you're absurdly uninformed.

    Please don't listen to LethaL.

Besides, I've already aged twice in one year for that. No way I could pull that shit off again.
