So I just got invited to Cusp week intro, Rush, and if i don't feel like going to that i get a free ride to closed rush because i know people in the frat already. I have a 100% chance of getting bids and I'd have a long time friend as a big brother that i grew up with if i do pledge. Dues are only 265 a semester and I don't pay for my first. Any good stories/ pros and cons of frats? Help me decide
It doesn't matter, I still think based on the interactions that we've had that your personality could function well in a frat environment. Just from the way that you think about things etc. I'm not saying that its a bad or good thing or that you should or shouldn't at all. Personally I couldn't spend 15 minutes in a frat environment, I'm just too much of a loner.
joining a frat was the best decision of my short college career so far. it's like a sports team on steroids; i've never been closer to a fairly large amount of guys in such a short amount of time, and although much of this bonding was forced, i am good friends with a majority of them and the memories are irreplaceable. being a pledge sucks, sure, but the payoff is without a doubt worth it. i also think it depends on your college; USC has a very active Greek community and when you're not in a house it kind of sucks socially, other universities differ. Most importantly, make sure you do some research on the house and pick the fraternity based on the people you meet, not on their party reputation or how sweet their house looks. feel free to pm me with more specific questions

I can't believe you're into that kind of thing. To each their own, I guess.

okay, while it seems my effort at breaking the stereotype of frat guys on these forums is about as possible as digging through a brick wall with my fingers, i will admit that a good 80% or so of the fraternities at USC are indeed full of homosexual tools. The way to avoid this, however, as I said earlier, is to join a frat based on YOUR IMPRESSION OF THE GUYS IN THE HOUSE, not because they throw the sickest parties or attract the skankiest skanks. If i had gone through rush and not found anyone in any house who i could see myself hanging out with and being friends with, I wouldn't have joined a frat. In some colleges, unfortunately, I'm sure that would happen. But I did find a group of guys who I get along with and will continue to for the rest of my college years, and the networking possibilities beyond college are limitless. saying that everyone in a frat is a jock/tool/asshole is akin to saying that everyone who spends their time on a gaming forum is a helpless nerd who regards normal social interaction as anathema.
finally, when i say forced bonding, it wasn't like they stuck us in a room for hours and made us get along. it's fucking pledging; you have to do certain events together where everyone has to be in attendance, and those tend to be the ones where real memories are formed. luckily, i'm not in a frat that hazes, or else i would have dropped, but we do have to know about the history of the house, all the brother's names, etc. it's not like i was living a miserable existence all fall semester.

I'm pretty sure most of those impressions are true, and you forgot to mention that they are probably the #1 cause of transmitting STDs.
OMG THEY'RE HAVING A DANCE PARTY AT SIG EP THIS WEEKEND.
I'M SO THERE.
for realsies: asking about pledging on the donut forums is on par with asking a room full of blind kids what color a giraffe is.
pledging as blacklight has mentioned, is an experience. you can't get that from the opinions of the people on here. granted you lucked out, and he's in a frat but everyone else here hasn't had that life experience. it's not for everyone. you might not enjoy it, but if it peaks your interest, go with it. i for one, couldn't be in a frat because it's not my style. cj does prove a strong argument about everyone being in a frat is about as cool as a scrotum (read: average temperature of a scrotum is 92 degrees farenheit.. making it hot...and not cool {get it!!!!})
just fucking go do it. you suck at counterstrike, so you might as well do something people won't laugh at you for.
