The prime suspect in the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores on May 30 – and prime suspect in Atlanta honor student Natalee Holloway's 2005 disappearance on Aruba – shunned all questions and stared straight ahead, tight-lipped. His police interrogation began almost immediately, Gen. Cesar Guardia, chief of Peru's criminal police, told the Associated Press.
Police also released video taken by security cameras at the hotel where the fatally bludgeoned body of Flores was found. The footage shows van der Sloot and his alleged victim entering his hotel room together – only the Dutchman later leaving alone with , a day pack on his back and a gym bag in his hand.
Entering the hotel, Flores is seen trailing van der Sloot, her head bowed, after he is handed his room key. She retains the same stance as she follows him into the room.
Peru's interior minister, Octavio Salazar, told reporters at a brief news conference that the murder investigation was not finished. "We can't rush the matter, nor can we give details concerning the event or that investigation itself," he said.
Gen. Guardia's spokesman, Abel Gamarra, also said that van der Sloot, 22, was due to be kept overnight at the headquarters of the criminal police.
I am thinking he might not get away with this one.
