White House spokesman Nick Shapiro on Wednesday reiterated Obama's stance that "federal resources should not be used to circumvent state laws." "And as he continues to appoint senior leadership to fill out the ranks of the federal government, he expects them to review their policies with that in mind," Shapiro said.
Not the most forceful renouncement of their previous policy, but it's a nice political bitch slap.
It will be interesting to see if Obama does anything to stop the raids, it looks like the DEA has halfway decent chance to continue what they're doing with that supreme court ruling.
Yeah, this is still off in wishy dreamy land (along with my fuckin' unicorn that farts electric cars) but it's at least a statement of policy that jibes a little better with me than the last 8 years of flexing federal muscle. Just hearing it feels pretty good. It'll feel even better if he changes the leadership of the DEA around if they keep this shit up.
