Gone for a bit in 2 months
  • GachiGachi October 2008
Basically, come January 5th, I will be gone for 3 months. If all goes well, I will then return home for 10 days, then leave for another 3-4 weeks, then after that have computer access again.

You may ask yourself why? You may not really give a damn if I was gone forever or here everyday. If you feel this way, fuck you.

After 2 months of waiting and going through hoops for my waivers to be processed and approved, I officially swore into the Marine Corps Delayed Entry program. My plans, so long as I graduate boot camp, is to go active duty. As of right now, i don't have a job chosen, but am looking into becoming an Intelligence Specialist.

Pheylan, aka GodoftheTwinkies, will hopefully soon be going through his OCS bootcamp. One day he'll be flying airplanes or helicopters like he did in BF2. I will be scared for the enemies sake. image/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

So, 2 months to train... I'm excited and looking forward to boot camp.

Yeah, to tack on to Gachi's post, pretty much the same day that he was getting all his final shit together, I found out that I got accepted into Navy Officer Candidate School and Navy flight school following completion of OCS. I'll probably be leaving around the same time as him, but I don't have a date yet.

    So...BF2 is now becoming real life. Good luck to you both image/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

haha, so true, now only if all those who played joined us.

Only difference is, Pheylan will be an officer in the Navy, flying planes or helicopters, while I'll be in the Marines fighting on the ground and doing specific type stuff related to my job.

Was going nowhere, fast. Working retail is terrible and can't really afford to go back to school to get my bachelors, and an associate degree for Criminal Justice helps me with nothing.

Plus my family and I will be able to travel.
  • xemplarxemplar October 2008
traveling can take a toll on a family...it isn't always fun and games.

I'm used to it as my father is retired Navy. My wife is excited to travel, and if possible, we're looking at Okinawa, Japan as a place to go. Then while on vacation leave, we could go all over Europe. But I'm thinking too far into the future as I have to complete boot camp first.

    So, why the Marine Corps?
  • GachiGachi October 2008
got a few friends in the Marine Corps. After doing extensive research on their training, their physical fitness, etc, I found the Marine Corps more of a challenge and more appealing.

I also did the Army thing back in 2001, and was disgusted by their misdiagnosis of me. Also, I'm seeing more and more, that their physical appearance isn't that of the Marine Corps. The fact the Marine Corps seems more professional and have a great appearance, both in uniform and physical fitness, is an attraction as well.

So in general, the challenge, benefits for my family, more money for college ($80,000) using the GI Bill, the chance to travel is rewarding in itself. I just need to make it through boot camp before I really focus too much on the other ideas.
  • BillBill October 2008
Jesus, if it's anything like it was in BF2 I hope to christ they don't let gooch drive.
  • GachiGachi October 2008
haha! I'm going to say QFT to that.
  • jkarate212jkarate212 October 2008
I P.T. with Marines every thursday. It's quite intense, since it's with a bunch of poolees about to ship out, so they prepare them for boot. Or at least as much as they can.

Just make sure you're working your ass off well in advance before you go. Whenever you think you can do enough, you need to do more.

Good luck. It's a hell of a title to earn.

(ps I'm shipping out this spring/summer)
  • GachiGachi October 2008
You shipping for the Marines too zero? If so, congrats and good luck to you! I will let you know how boot camp is for me.

Yes, Marines normally PT at their RS on Thursdays and I think on Saturdays too.
  • JeddHamptonJeddHampton October 2008
    I wish you luck.

Intel.? I can just see you in PSYOPS. I will tell you now, dropping fliers with "n00bz" printed on them will probably not be that effective.

Best of luck. Stay out of the line of fire. I have noticed that the time to respawn in this server is rather lengthy.
  • jkarate212jkarate212 October 2008
Yeah Gachi, I'll be at Paris Island MCRD sometime in the summer or late spring. Looks like you'll be getting out of there a little before me. I look forward to hearing the good news
  • GachiGachi October 2008
Way to go Zero.. so are you Dep'd in yet? I'm excited and hope to come back with good news.

oh lord, I'd be quarter decked quick.
  • LethaLLethaL October 2008
pheylan a little advice for you, it might be a good thing to you keep your pants on all the time during training
  • JeddHamptonJeddHampton October 2008
I don't think being pantless falls under don't look don't tell...
  • BrianBrian October 2008
Good shit guys. Congrats and well done. Keep us posted.
  • GachiGachi November 2008
    Zero, when do you ship?

Check out the website www.leatherneck.com and surf around on the forums. Be sure to fill out your profile, and before asking any questions in the poolee or Ask a Marine section, be sure to search for it first.

oh btw, had a mock Marine Corps Ball yesterday, wasn't anything huge.. small buffet, had a cake ceremony, showed us what a POW/KIA table looks like. It was a great learning experience.

Next Thursday we're running a PFT (3 mile run, crunches, and pullups). I've never ran 3 miles before, so I'm hoping I will do good on time.
  • JeddHamptonJeddHampton November 2008
What is a good time for 3 miles? I remember back when I wrestled, I'd run three miles daily. I'd get around 42-43 minutes and still have energy to spare.

I'm thinking Marines would be closer to 30 minutes.
  • GachiGachi November 2008
To pass the PFT for males, the run time for 3 miles is 28 minutes max. 18 minutes is a perfect score.
  • JeddHamptonJeddHampton November 2008
Wow. I'd love to see you do it. GO GACHI!
  • GachiGachi November 2008
If I ran 3 miles alone, I don't think I'd do it, but the fact that I'll be running with a bunch of other guys in the same boat I'm in, It'll make me push myself to stride faster. I'll post the results so long as they're not embarrassing. image/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
